About Museum
For decades, the Ivane Javakhishvili Samtskhe-Javakheti History Museum of Georgian National Museum has been one of the major educational, cultural and research centres of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. In 1880s the public figure and Meskhi enlightener founded a private Museum on the basis of which a regional museum was created in 1923. In a few years it was transformed into a local museum. In 1972, the museum was named after Ivane Javakhishvili.
In 2012, after the reconstruction of the Castle the Samtskhe-Javakheti state History Museum of modern, international standards was opened.
The exposition of the Museum was updated to accommodate the material obtained as a result of the archaeological excavations in the site Orchosani, Adigeni Municipality in 2015-2016ss.
